Based on the true story of a teenager's relationships with two extraordinary men, this new play looks at the intersection of Midwestern sensibilities, politics, race and sports. 13-year-old Ronnie Rabinovitz was a pen pal with the legendary baseball player and civil rights advocate Jackie Robinson, and also got to know John F. Kennedy, who was campaigning in Wisconsin where Ronnie's father was a leader of the state Democratic Party. Commissioned by the History Theatre, Eric Simonson's play portrays the town of Sheboygan, Wisconsin in 1960, an improbable candidate for such a hotbed of activity that would come to change the country.
