Sixteen 4' x 4' x 8' blocks of packed snow took on some astounding characteristics at the 2014 City of Lakes Loppet Snow Sculpture Contest on February 1, 2014.  Right next to the finish line, close by the Big Tent, and near many of the activities on Lake Calhoun, teams started to reshape snow blocks and for five hours were allowed to transform space.

Check out the whole three-part series showing the Snow Sculpture contest and process:

2014 Snow Sculpture Rocket-ship Plans

In this small part of the City of Lakes Loppet, a world of imagination melds with a continuous churning of athletic endeavors and group participation, with spectators and supporters, families, friends bundled but gleeful. Thanks to the Loppet Foundation and, Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board and all others involved and sponsoring this event. Especially thanks to the sculpting teams for a remarkable bit of fantasy worked in frozen water.
