Last weekend felt like a spring explosion with its many festivals and long-awaited burst of sun. This weekend continues the spring fun with Mother’s Day events, the Fishing Opener, National Train Day celebrations, and a host of other activitites. Read on for this weekend’s lively lineup:
Bring Back Our Girls, Friday, May 9
Start the weekend by lending your voice and signs to raise awareness about the 276 school girls who were abducted in Nigeria by the Boko Haram militia. Organizers are asking for participants to bring a red candle, wear the color red, and bring your camera to help document the event. More details here.

Anglers rejoice! Happy days are here again as walleye, northern pike, and sauger become legal game. Apparently the ice has receded just in time. Check here for a "tackle box of angler must-haves."
Union Depot National Train Day Celebration, May 10
All aboard train lovers! Union Depot and Amtrak are hosting a celebration to mark the return of Amtrak Passenger rail service to the Union Depot and celebrate National Train Day. The event will feature exhibit trains and showcase the history and adventure of rail travel. Go here for more info.

Twin City Model Railroad Musuem Celebrates National Train Day, May 10
Naturally, the Twin City Model Railroad Museum is also celebrating National Train Day. The musuem is hosting two events, one at Minnesota State Fairgrounds in Saint Paul, and the other at the Twin City Model Railroad Museum.
The semi-annual Model Railroad Show and Hobby Sale will feature over 200 tables of antiques, collectibles, toys, tools and all things trains. The museum celebration will include Amtrak Trains on operating layouts, plus an historic bus giving free round trip rides between the museum, Jackson Street Roundhouse and Union Depot.
