Author and University of Minnesota professor in the Department of Neuroscience, A. David Redish will discuss his book The Mind Within the Brain: How We Make Decisions and How Those Decisions Go Wrong on Tuesday, September 24 at 4:00 p.m. at the University of Minnesota Bookstore in Coffman Memorial Union, 300 Washington Ave. S.E. Minneapolis.
With verve and humor in an easily readable style, Redish brings together cutting edge research in psychology, robotics, economics, neuroscience, and the new fields of neuroeconomics and computational psychiatry, to show how vulnerabilities, or “failure-modes,” in the decision-making system can lead to serious dysfunctions, such as irrational behavior, addictions, problem gambling, and PTSD. The Mind Within the Brain offers fresh insight into one of the most complex aspects of human behavior—what makes us human, the nature of morality, free will and the conundrum of robotics and consciousness.
Redish will sign copies of his book following the discussion. This event is free and open to the public. For more information, or to order a signed copy visit www.bookstore.umn.edu/genref/authors.html.
