It’s beginning to feel and look a lot like fall in the Twin Cities! The first weekend of October is ushering in cooler temps and a lively roster of events to ease you into the season. Scroll down for the lineup and see Pumpkins, caramel and more; Twin Cities fall fun for fall-themed events taking place this weekend.

Minneapolis Underground Film Festival, October 1 -5

The Minneapolis Underground Film Festival, now in its 7th year, is back with an exciting lineup of original and provocative work. The fest is hosted and sponsored by The Film Society of Minneapolis at St. Anthony Main Theater. Visit the website for this year’s lineup of films.

Poetry Out Loud, October 3

Come on out to the Loft’s Poetry Out Loud program’s special evening, showcasing East African voices! Special guest Congressman Keith Ellison will read from his book and share his experiences connecting with Minnesota State Poetry Out Loud champion Faiza Abubakar at the National Competition. The evening will also include short readings by Lula Saleh, Sarah Ogutu, Abdi Phenomenal and Abdihamid Geyre.

Twin Cities Oktoberfest October 3 - 4

The Oktoberfest fun continues this weekend, and this time at the Minnesota State Fairgrounds.  In addition to beer, this year’s event will feature a caricaturist, a photo booth, a cigar roller and authentic German clothing. There's also a big tent out back in the State Fair campground area with additional food options, games and vendors.

Blues N’ Brew Festival, October 4

The newly revitalized North Loop area in downtown Minneapolis marks the spot for a great evening of music and food. This fun celebration combines the best in blues bands, craft brewing, motorcycles and BBQ; featuring Big Head Todd’s Todd Park Mohr and more. Go here to get your free Metro pass to the event.

October Really Really Free Market, October 4

West Broadway Popups: Forward/50 – Minneapolis Art on Wheels, October 4

Enjoy an outdoor projection event that asks the question: What will north Minneapolis look like in 50 years? Members of the north Minneapolis community will share their appreciation for the neighborhood, and dreams for the future, by performing short gif-style animation with an artist from Minneapolis Art on Wheels (MAW). Event highlights include the creation of real time animation using MAW technology, and a large-scale projection after dark that connects the neighborhood with participants and viewers.

MCBA FallCon Comic Book Party, October 4

While at State Fairgrounds for Twin Cities Oktoberfest, stop by MCBA's FallCon, billed as a “One Day Wonder of pure comic book action.” FallCon offers a huge selection of comic books (around 500,000 golden age, silver age, bronze age, current and collectible comic books), trade paperbacks, graphic novels, original comic book art, manga, action figures, collectibles and much more. Also expect costumed characters, door prizes, surprise guests and great people-watching with diverse attendees from various walks of life!
