For a Unique Folk Music Experience, Czech Out This Touring Band

Domažlice Dudácká Muzika, an ethnic folk band from the Czech Chod Region will perform  on Sunday, October 19, at 1:30 pm, at the C.S.P.S. Hall located at 383 Michigan Street, St. Paul, MN 55102. There will be ethnic food for sale and a cash bar.

Don’t miss this unique Czech folk music performance featuring the dudy or Czech bagpipe. This is a rare opportunity to experience several types of bagpipes and other ancient folk instruments. Along with the bagpipe, clarinet, violin and string bass, nearly forgotten ancient Czech folk rhythmic musical instruments such as the fanfrnoch (clay or metal container with horsehair, vozembouch (staff topped with bow hung with rattles), and hrábě (rake) will be played. These instruments bring a comic element to the performance that require some audience participation.

The long-time endeavor of the Domažlice Bagpipe Band has been to perform the original folk music from the region of Chodsko. Their repertoire consists of songs about all aspects of the life of the Chod people as lived in the past – love songs, naughty songs, drinking songs, and work songs – as well as humorous stories from the lives of the Chods called poudacky.
