The grand jury's decision on whether or not to indict killer cop Darren Wilson for the death of Michael Brown is expected any day. Authorities are planning and prepping for major unrest in Ferguson and throughout the country, the KKK is threatening to use 'lethal force' against protesters and, meanwhile, the activist world is aflutter with calls to action once the news is out.
Locally, two demonstrations are called for the day after the results are announced:
- Student Rally to Demand Justice for Victims of Police Brutality, 3:00 pm @ the UofM's Coffman Union
- Minneapolis Solidarity Action Rally and March for Mike Brown, 4:30 pm @ MPD 3rd Precinct, Lake Street & Minnehaha Ave
The demonstrations, initiated by Twin Cities Save the Kids, Communities United Against Police Brutality and Students United Against Police Brutality, have over 30 organizations on an ever-growing list of co-sponsors.
Whether or not Darren Wilson is indicted, Mike Brown is dead, and racist violence and police brutality continue. This is as true here as it is in the rest of the country: from routine harassment of people of color for daring to exist in public spaces, to sharp disparities in low-level arrests, to basement execution, the Minneapolis police demonstrate their racism every day. There is no justice in a system founded on genocide and slavery, and no grand jury can change that.
Watch the facebook event for the announcement, and plan on coming out to protest killer cops, indictment or not.
