Home on the Mornin' Train

Crossing oceans and centuries, the Underground Railroad links two very different periods and two remarkable children in Kim Hines' moving play, Home on the Mornin' Train. Though separated by exactly one hundred years, the story of a Jewish girl in Hamburg, Germany in 1939 has painful parallels with that of a young runaway slave in Talladega, Alabama in 1839. Yet, despite the dangers they share, both characters are united in an unflagging search for the "promised land" -- be it Denmark, Canada or a destination found in the heart and spirit. Now the gifted young performers of the Twin Cities' Youth Performance Company stage this illuminating play at Howard Conn Fine Arts Center.
