Altered Esthetics is thrilled to present Insa Evans: Video Art at the Southern Theater. This exhibition opens on January 17th, in conjunction with the Southern's 2015 Season opening.
Insa Evans is a multidisciplinary artist based in Portland, Oregon. She was born in Germany and raised in South Florida. Her experience as a mixed race individual has a grounding impact on her work and adds complexity to her identity as an individual and an artist. Common themes in her work include: the deconstruction of the western perspective and experience of mental health, especially in women; the exploration of consciousness and personal transformation; and the intense experience of emotional sensitivity and instability - issues more present today in our modern world than ever before. The four videos presented at the Southern weave these themes together. They range from the exploration of innocence and eroticism, the practice of mindfulness amidst order and chaos, to her personal experience with the Western mental health industry.
Insa Evans: Video Art will be on view at the Southern Theater until March 11th.
