The Chinese Heritage Foundation will present its eighth annual festival, A Passage to China - an interactive journey, on March 14 and15, 11 a.m. – 5 p.m. in the Rotunda and Sears Court at Mall of America. This FREE family-oriented festival features interactive activities showcasing different aspects of Chinese culture, history and geography. These activities are offered by the more than 40 participating organizations.
Upon arrival in the Rotunda children will be issued ‘passports’. They can then participate in fun activities such as Chinese chess, Go, checkers, tangrams, name translations, Chinese calligraphy, fortune telling, speaking Mandarin Chinese, paper cutting, face painting of Chinese opera masks, making dumplings, and other Chinese arts and crafts. In response to their popularity, make-your-own porcelain medallions, Terra Cotta warrior heads, and Chinese prints will return. New this year will be an opportunity to create your own Chinese painting or watch the carving of your own personal Chinese seal. As children complete these activities their ‘passports’ will be stamped. Those who have collected enough stamps will receive a prize.
Authentic Chinese music and dance performances, as well as martial arts, will be performed on the Sears Court stage.
